According to reports from the BBC and various other news platforms, A Manchester charity event that was, at the time, reported as having made thousands of pounds in donations to two children's charities, failed to pay out.

The Umbrella Ball, that was held in July of last year was hosted by Manchester magazine A magazine. The event was high profile and had a number of stars and footballers on the guest lists. The ball was held at Manchester's Radisson Blu Edwardian hotel and featured auctions, with a £7000 yacht as the grand prize.

Despite the events perceived glitz and glamour, the company recently confirmed that the event failed to make any profit and therefore couldn’t make any donations to the two children's charities that the event had been in aid of.

According to BBC News, the charities in question contacted the organisers on many occasions after the event to find out what had happened to the donations. Finally, they received the response that their was to be no donations, as the event didn’t make any profits.

After pressing the matter further, one of the companies partners, Alex Khan offered to donate £3,500 to the charity, but the charity refused, asking to find out more information about the account.

Reportedly, the event made a lot of money in donations, some of which were left in cash in envelopes on the tables. Both charities have since involved ActionFraud and the fundraising regulator.

According to Mr. Khan, the ill-Health of his partner and administration errors are what caused the event to be unsuccessful. Fundraising events of this nature can often go wrong, however, it’s important that business account for this as fundraising events are regulated heavily by various organisations.

Businesses like Fundraising Blueprint also operate to help fundraisers to ensure that their events are properly organised and in-line with regulation.

Whether or not the company will be required to pay the charity is still to be seen, but the situation is under investigation and the Fundraising Regulator hopes to compile a report by the end of July.
